Allan Ramsay Festival 2017

14th October 2017

Allan Ramsay Festival 2017 celebrated the lives of two remarkable Scots; Allan Ramsay - poet (1684-1758) and his son, also Allan, the distinguished portrait painter (1713-1784).
This year the new Ramsay Tour of Edinburgh was unveiled which highlights key locations in Edinburgh with important connections with Allan Ramsay the poet.
We also enjoyed a Presentation and Talk by Lucinda Lax (Curator, 18th Century Art, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh) at Penicuik House.
The guest speak at the annual Allan Ramsay Dinner was historian, writer and broadcaster, Billy Kay,  whose highly informative and immensely enjoyable talk "Knee Deep in Claret" celebrated Scotland's successful 18th century wine trade.
Prof. Murray Pittock, Glasgow University, gave the Toast to the Immortal Memory of Allan Ramsay.
